Tues Reviews: The Progressive Snapshot, Saving More on Car Insurance? {Giveaway}

by

Taking the Progressive Snap Shot Challenge.

For 30 days I rode around with this thingy in my car. It’s the Progressive Snapshot device and it’s going to tell me if I’m worthy of discounts! (Yippee!!)

You just slip that little guy into this plug that I had no idea existed underneath my dash right here.

And voila! It measures your driving! Sort of.

After it’s installed, it beeps a couple of times when you turn the car on probably to remind you it is there. Most of the time it stays silent, unless of course someone happens to stop short (even remotely), and that’s when it beeps again to yell at you to indicate it had monitored the stopping short. (Oopsy.)

Those are the only two times the unit “speaks,” for the rest of the time it just remains silent leaving me to wonder what it was thinking.

Was I driving good? Am I doing ok? Can it see me?

I wondered.

After seeing your driving pattern for 30 days, you can find out exactly what it’s thinking by logging on and getting a quote to find out how much less your car insurance can be based on your amazing driving habits. (Minus any of the stopping short of course.) You can save up to 30%!

So, anyways. Over the past 30 days I took my new silver friend around town and I figured I’d give you a glimpse into my exciting life (as if I never do!)

The little Progressive thingy has sat in car line with me, for many, many hours as you might have guessed. It made its way to the grocery store with me. It came to the gym. It rode along with me as I went to doctors appointments for my sons, my mom and for me.

To the mall.

To Bed Bath and Beyond where I found K-Cups on deep discount because they were going to expire in a month. (Did you know they do that? 50% off, man! And just for your information, even when the KCUPS expire, you won’t die if you consume them! Hooray!)

Home Goods to buy new puppy supplies and to find me a couple of cute hooks for my race medals. I’m making a DIY race medal holder and I’m excited!

The grocery store where I got a yummy mojo rotisserie chicken from the deli and got an amazing recipe for grilled salmon and peach chutney that I cannot wait to try!

Lots of picking up, dropping off, you know the drill. I live on the edge.

And now I am totally interested in finding out what it says about me as a driver and whether I am worthy of a discount because of it! Wouldn’t you be? I’ll share that with you in my review next Tuesday and you can decide if you want to take the Snapshot challenge too!

  2. Day in the life of a stay at home, pregnant mom! I drive my 9 year old son to school and back and to his weekly activities, and play dates with friends. I drive my 2 year old to play dates, and she always comes with me to my dr. appointments. We do a lot of driving to stores, grocery shopping, and shopping for the new baby who is due Feb. 15th! On the weekends when my husband is home (he works out of state 40 hrs. / week) we visit different festivals, landmarks, and try to get the kids outside taking walks and visiting different local waterfalls and whatnot. Besides all of that there are vet appointments for our 1 yr. old black lab, Chipper, going to my parents twice a week for dinner, and the occasional night out with my husband!

  3. So… you never said.. did you qualify for a discount?!?!?

  4. So many errands! So little time! From shopping, work, meeting friends, soccer practices, softball, and more! I can’t find enough time in the day.

  5. I have 3 kids who I drive to 3 different schools and then two all different after school programs

  6. A day in the life of Becca when it comes to driving is switching between two interstates with construction and then I switch onto a major highway.

  7. I sleep during the day, then get up and check my emails and blog. Then I visit with the kids and take them to where they need to go and fix supper. I run errands a couple times a week. Then I head to work the graveyard shift as a 911 dispatcher. Thanks.

  8. A day in the life of Laura includes shuttling both kids from school to afterschool activities and back home again.

  9. our day starts with doping off our daughter at school then running errands and then my “work” Parting with Scentsy!

  10. i drive about 10 miles to work and back. That’s it. no more driving. :)

  11. Day in the life of me- after work I run errands! Walmart, the Pharmacy, the Gas Station, groceries, book store….it varies but I did log 50k miles in two years!

  12. Lets see 5 kids ranging from 11 to 7 months old…and a husband that’s been off work due to injury for 3 months…just imagine…I volunteered run a nuthouse lol

  13. My day consists of staying home with my little girl playing with haer all day, chase, hide and seek, anything that she wants to do at the time. We also go to the park everyday around which is about a 15 minute drive in which almost everyday she manages to see the ice cream shop on the way back and I always get suckered in to getting her a baby chocolate cone because of her insane cuteness! So basically my day is being a 2 year olds slave and I aodre it :P

  14. Let’s see. Get 4kids up and dressed for school. Hopefully they eat something and they HAVE to brush their teeth! Then it’s off to school and the bus stop. Then I’m off to work at my never-ending-just-trying-to-get-tenure job. Evenings are full of soccer practices, choir rehearsals, wrestling practices, and all the school activities that go along with 4 kids. I make at least one stop at the grocery store daily for a snack or dinner or if a good coupon deal pops up. LOTS of driving. Uuuggghhhhh…..

  15. Im a peddle to the metal type of driver. I honk if need be while being our family chauffeur. I run here and I run there always with a smile

  16. I live 7 miles from the kid’s school so it is get up get them to school, grocery store, pay bills, out to eat and then back home and turn around pick them up at 3, after school activites and then back home.

  17. I take the kids to school and then usually hit up Target. Target is my second home :/ Then later pick the kiddos up

  18. I have the snapshop device installed in my vehicle. I brake sometimes due to heavy traffic. I don’t slam on brakes, just brake normally. I drove the vehicle in a couple long trips, less than 200 miles. I did not qualify because of this. I am not an aggressive driver, generally do not pass others, and do not tail other drivers and did not qualify for the program.

I think you have to live in an unpopulated area and not have a job to drive to in order to qualify for the snapshot program. The program is a bunch of bull!

  19. Work, driving the kids around, and errands.

  20. I carpool to work so only have to worry about crazy drivers every other week.

  22. The Snapshot device is a pain in the butt.I suppose if you live in a town without traffic lights/other cars/bicycles/people walking in front of you/ it might be OK.If you can coast to every stop that would be great, heaven forbid a light change or someone stop or walk in front of you.

  23. Yes, by all means use Snapshot if you want to help the auto insurance companies create a future when all our cars have devices which spy on our driving at all times!

Do you really want your car’s spying device to be able to provide information to be presented against you in a court of law, if you ever get a ticket or an accident? Do you want your insurance company (and anyone who works for them, or hacks into their computers) to know where you are, and where you go, every minute of every day, and every detail of your driving?

If you want a Big Brother insurance industry spying on your driving at all times, and charging those who refuse to be spied on huge insurance premiums, compared to those who agree to be spied on, then go ahead and get Snapshot. Seems unAmerican to me!

  24. First off I would like to say great blog! I had
a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts
out. I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints? Thanks!
