Hello Fitbloggin Friends New and Old!

by

Going from Couch to Triathlon and Surviving!!

If you’re reading this, that means I didn’t die during my speech! I have not only survived triathlon, I’ve survived a speech ABOUT TRIATHLON HOORAY!

Whew.

First I want to thank you for watching and not heckling me and also when (or if) I stumbled or pooed myself, I thank you for not laughing.

That’s a load off. Literally. Now I can enjoy the conference without panicking about my speech!

Anyway, I’d like to welcome you to my blog! Take a look around here, I do recipes, I do fitness, I do reviews, I do crazy. But I heart triathlon SO.MUCH so that I am sure that any of you can do one. It’s not even about the sport, it’s about the journey, like all things, and through triathlon you’ll be on one and it’s amazing. My journey looked like this:

BUT IT WAS SO SO SO MUCH MORE that that!

Since I did my first sprint triathlon a couple years ago, I have indeed become a triathlon addict and have done many more sprints, several olympic distance triathlons and 2 half Ironmans. Will I do the full ever? Well I think that takes a special level of crazy. (So maybe one day.)

If you’re here because you saw me at Fitbloggin and you want to get started, I wanted to give you some resources right off the top, stuff that helped me get going during my first go.

Here is a longer, more detailed post about how to go from Couch to Triathlon.

And here is a post about the tools to get started in triathlon.

Need a race plan? Here’s an amazing and very comprehensive free sprint triathlon race plan and another free triathlon race plan that I used after I used the other one!

And these are even more running and triathlon training plans that I’ve used.

Here are also some of my race reports where you can see my own trials and tribulations through this sport (and there are many, including open water panicking and a lot of it!), so NO you’re not alone in that one, trust me.

I’m on Daily Mile too so when you start your training, let me know so I can cheer you on (safety in numbers!) and if you have ANY QUESTIONS along the way at all, like about getting over fears or mental training, I have done it all, then please email christieo at averagemomswearcapes.com.

So. GO sign up at www.active.com AND GO FORTH AND TRI!

Presentation photo credits: Thanks to Meredith at Swim Bike Mom for continuing to motivate, and Bruce at Chainwheel for the silly recovery photo, my cousin and nephews for tri-ing and if I missed anyone, just know I love you.

Disclosure: I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv, so always check with your doctor about any kind of crazy you’re about to embark on, and after you get the go ahead, which I’m sure you will because the doctors are crazy and do these things too, then proceed to ACTIVE.COM and sign up. Have a nice day!
