Back to School Frames: A Cute Way to Capture that First Day of School!
I had a back to school party today and these were my favors for everyone who came, inspired by Pinterest of course (where I get all my brilliant ideas. Heh).
I simply took a frame from the dollar store and glued a mechanical pencil that looks like a real pencil (but smaller) onto the top using Tacky Glue (a glue gun would have been my first choice but I’ve broken mine! Wah.)
I bought two six packs of mechanical pencils for $1 each.
Then, I wrote “1st Day of School 2012″ on construction paper in crayon, but I especially noted if it was Kindergarten for my friends who will have Kindergartners tomorrow (and will head off to cry in their morning coffee after drop off!)
These are not just frames to take home, however. Well, what will they do with it, you ask?
This is the best part!
NOW, they can take a picture of their kids holding the frame and then they can print out the picture! Not only will the picture note that it’s the first day of school or kindergarten, they’ll have a place to keep their first day of school picture! All they have to do is replace the construction paper with the picture. Hooray!
I saw similar ideas on Pinterest and thought this might make a great favor for my back to school party.
It’s super perfect to mark that momentous day and have a frame to capture the memory. If you haven’t started school yet, this is a quick and simple way to capture that first day. Here’s a list of things you’ll need, you can print it out.
DIY First Day of School Frames Supply List
- Mechanical pencils that look like real pencils, regular pencils or even chalk!
- Frames
- Tacky Glue or glue gun
- Construction paper
- Crayons
You can get really creative with this, too, if you want, you can have your kids write it down themselves so you can capture their handwriting, you can have their name and their favorite things, anything you want. You can glue chalk on there, or regular pencils along the sides, in fact I might even change mine up a little in time for tomorrow! Check out these adorable back to school pins for more inspiration! This one even has some great back to school printables for your photos. I made some extra and I’ll be giving them away along with some other goodies I had at my party today so keep an eye out for that this week!
When do your kids go back to school? Are you ready?

What a great idea! And no, I’m not ready for school although we were supposed to start 3 weeks ago
I should be doing lesson plans right now but instead I’m reading blogs, etc and watching Princess Brides.
