Beast Mode Mondays

Posted by

Mondays are usually my most motivated day.

Maybe it’s something to do with the weekend and (hopefully) getting caught up on what I missed the previous week (which usually has something to do with laundry and actually right now our dryer is broken, and I’m writing this while on hold with someone who probably can’t help me. Sigh.)

I’m usually pretty excited to get the week started, although today I think some extra coffee might be in order, you?

Anyway, for a while I did “Mantra Mondays” where I would set up the week with whatever my mantra was going to be that week. That was pretty motivating and I kept the mantra going the whole week and started fresh every Monday. Each Monday I built on what happened the previous week and it was nice continuity and a way to keep focused on new goals.

Then it was “Marathon Monday” which ended abruptly when my marathon training did when I was injured. (Wah wahhhh.)

Now, I’m going to start something new. It’s because I need to get AMPED. I have been out injured for so many weeks and I am finally starting to run again and I am PUMPED. I have never had to bail on a race before and this winter I’ve bailed ON TWO. The Miami ING Marathon and the brand new Rock N Roll St. Pete 1/2 Marathon.

Now, it’s 12 weeks until St. Anthony’s triathlon and I have been on my bike twice this winter. I have been in the pool TWICE. I have run a handful of times which ended mostly in disappointment.

I have gained weight. That’s the worst part.

It has not been my favorite offseason.

But…

I had a FANTASTIC RUN on Friday!

I have to admit I went against all my own advice on how to get back after injury but I can’t explain it, there was a fire from within that made me just want to run and keep running and not stop running. It was like a culmination of frustrating non-running all built up into one big giant need to GET IT ALL OUT OF ME!

And plus my running playlist right now ROCKS and I cannot sit still listening to it. So I ran a little slower than usual at first (and by “usual” I mean pre-injury), but I ran continuous and then I sprinted the last quarter mile. It was a solid 3 mile run and I’m happy after all this time and with so few recent runs, I can still eek that outta me.

Moving forward, to get PUMPED UP, I’m starting a new Monday installation and it’s called “Beast Mode Monday!”

Because for the next 12 weeks I want to be IN BEAST MODE! In the nicest, most girl, aggressive work-out-y way possible.

It has been too long.

I have cleaned out my office which is going to be my new cycle room, I’m putting the bike on the trainer. We are searching for a treadmill. It will be a room that is the opposite of what they say to do on HGTV, it will be an office and a workout room (they say have one purpose for each room) but for lack of rooms in my house, this will just have to be.

‘Cause things around here gotta change.

Since launching Christie O. Media in the fall, I am so happy to say things have taken off (hooray!) But honestly, between working and being injured, my workouts have taken a back seat. I am in a transition phase I wasn’t anticipating until at least both kids were in elementary school and it has been hard (but so much fun and so worth it!)

Now I’m one of the people saying what I used to hate to hear:  I don’t have time to work out.

Uh oh. I feel a conversation with myself coming on…

Self: Um, what? Did I just hear you say you dont have time to work out? Girl, pleaz.
Self 2: Um, ‘girl pleaz?’ Since when do you talk like that? Next you’re going to say ‘Three snapz in a Z formation!’ And yes, you know how it’s been, there are tiny windows of time in which for us to get any work done and the little one is only in school for 3 hours in the morning and then you have to get him and then you have a window in the afternoon when the mother-in-law comes over, but sometimes she doesn’t and well, windows close quickly! And then you don’t have another window until after bed!
Self: You know what I hear? ‘Blah blah, blah blah blah.’
Self 2: Well then you really should be more sympathetic, I have to listen to you all the time.
Self: At least I’m not complaining all the time. Just shut up, hop on your bike and sweat for 30 minutes. If you can’t do that, make up a workout to do at home. Or get your butt to the gym at night. There’s time. FIND IT.
Self 2: OK fine. But you tell your clients that you are busy, they’ll love that.
Self: Plenty of people work out and run businesses, you can do this. It’ll make you a better mom and person.
Self2: You’re right. It will. Fine.

OK, now that that’s out of the way, I do think for the foreseeable future, working out at home is going to be the easiest way to go. Sometimes in order to turn on “Beast Mode” you have to improvise.

So how do you talk yourself into scheduling it in? Are you training for something and wanna amp it up too? Join me for Beast Mode Mondays. Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to do something very beastly during the week. (Feminine and beastlike, you can still be a girl beast.)

I’ll be scheduling in my workouts but in at least one, I’m going to push it. Or do something fabulous. And that will be the focus of my Beast Mode Monday. Perhaps I’ll be a beast the whole week!

I’ll let you know how my at-home cycling went next Monday. Although I’m pretty sure if it’s not going so well, you’ll hear about it on Twitter or Facebook first! (ha.)

So feel free to join  me. If enough people want to join, I’ll leave a linky below the post so we can link up and go support each other.

Have a great week! Work out hard!

Beast Mode ON!
