This week’s update on my Miami Ing Marathon sponsored by Girlz N Gear
I’m stuck with a bum IT band, it’s sidelined my long runs and I’m panicking. At this point, I have no idea how to re-insert myself into my training plan with my long runs and any run over 5 miles makes me keel over in pain. I am getting in to see my orthopedic doctor next Tuesday, so I hope he can figure this out for me.
In the meantime I am almost afraid to run right now and quite frankly it makes me feel a lazy arse. I don’t want to make it worse but I don’t want to miss out on runs, either.
If I sit out injured, can I get back into the training? Long runs included? Time is ticking away so fast!
I am literally paralyzed with what to do because I have no idea. I asked for them to keep me posted if there is an earlier opening because waiting until Tuesday is killing me. It’s like waiting for a hair appointment with my roots already fully in and yelling at me.
Aside from the running (or non-running), I’m still working out on Tiffany Mondays and doing core work and strength trainings. And (except for last Saturday night’s Mexican fiesta/slash/wine festival partakings) I’m eating well. So I’m not gaining gobs of weight. That’s a good thing.
I wish I was more positive on the whole running thing but I’m just sort of bummed right now and refusing to accept that there is a real problem. I’m just waiting for the doctor to tell me it’s something that’ll work out, there’s something magical that will fix me and I’ll be on my way like a race car in a pit stop. I’ll be doing some short runs to see what happens and maybe try another 5 mile next weekend to see what happens.
More on this next Monday. The good news is, today’s Tiffany Monday (which is what I call my personal training days with Tiffany who is like a Jillian) felt awesome, I still love doing suicides like I did in high school and after that, my mom’s group threw the NICU showers we’ve been planning. That’s for tomorrow’s post — it.was.awesome.
So there’s still lots to be thankful for.

Do you have access to a pool? If so, try water jogging. I am doing it now, not exciting but it will help keep your running fitness without aggravating your IT more. My Y has floatation belts that you put on & then just jog in the deep end. Try to keep your running form intact. It feels weird at first but you will get the hang of it. Go hard so you get a good workout.
Sorry you are injured. Hope you get healed quickly!

do you have an appointment scheduled with a doc??
So sorry this continues to hinder you! I was so bummed when I had me feet issues & could not find a way to exercise without pain. So glad a reader introduced me to my Hoka One On running shoes which now are my staple due to the feet & lack of any fat padding in the balls of my feet. It amazes me that it can hurt o walk on a carpet but with these shoes, I can exercise like I did before!
Hope the doc helps you!
