Interrupting Movie Week for this Marathon Announcement

It is official. I’m out.

I am sad. It took a long time to concede it.

But, I won’t be returning to face the 26.2 in January.

The Miami ING Marathon, my 26.2 rematch. Grrrrr. Even copying the link from the website to add to this KILLS ME!

It was such a bummer for me to make that decision. After 3 years of racing, I haven’t missed a race, I haven’t canceled a race, and I haven’t DNF’ed (did not finish) even though I wanted to, I finished every last darn one of them.

It was especially a bummer because this is my first ever (maybe even ONLY!) sponsored race. I am being sponsored by Girlz N Gear, who amazingly sponsored me for my average-ness. And I so appreciate that. I mean, who sponsors just average people??? They do.

So here’s the thing. I had xrays yesterday and I have an MRI today. I haven’t been able to run more than 5 miles without excrutiating pain. Is it a tear or an IT thing? Who knows, my doctor couldn’t figure it out. Either way, there is no way for me to reinsert myself into the marathon training plan at this point without injuring myself worse. I should be running more than 10 miles already and my knee just won’t do it.

I am even chopping my 10k Turkey Trot tomorrow down to the 5k.

*sigh*

I felt like a big loser calling it quits at first but now I think my body (and my mind) needed the time. I do feel less stressed knowing this, too. It is torture trying to heal while you have a training plan looming. Torture.

I have, however, requested to do the half-marathon, and if the marathon peoples allow me, I will strive for the best darn half-marathon time ever. My goal will be to beat 2:20.

My husband is still running the marathon. Yes, him running it and me not running it kills me a little inside.

But that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

mmmmmm. cookies.

I will still continue my Girlz N Gear training reports though. Just in case you’re wondering.

So that’s the state of the union.

Marathon out. Half-marathon in. (Hopefully).

  • So sorry Christie!!! Injuries stink! Where is the pain when you run? Your long term health is so much more important than running & making it all worse & maybe even a longer recovery. I hope you get answers & get well! I certainly understand! When my feet first started bothering me & before I found my Hoka One One running shoes, I thought I was going to have to stop exercising. HUGS!

  • I can relate. I had to DNS my fall 1/2 marathon this year. It really is hard to concede.

    I hope they figure out what is going on & it heals quickly!! Doesn’t it suck getting injured right before the holidays? I mean come on, so not fair!

  • This sucks sooooo bad! I know how difficult this decision had to hurt you but our physical health and well being is overall the number one priority here so it has to be the right one! Praying for answers with that MRI and a speedy recovery – whatever the problem is!
