I did the Suncoast Triathlon over the weekend but the highlight of the weekend was actually the race MY KIDS did, the Turtle Hurdle! It was the funnest obstacle/slash/mud race EVER!!
I showed up with the kids in their Mud-day best, all the clothes I wouldn’t mind them permanently damaging.
They received their race packet which included some really cool bling, and their race numbers. The race number was bigger than my little one’s chest, it was so cute.

A few short minutes later, they were lined up and they were OFF!

Through the mud pools, potato sack jumping, around the tree, up and over the wall…

Which surprisingly my little one went right up over but my older one freaked out at the top and ended up going around.

Through the tires and the tunnel, rolling tires, swinging across the sandpool, climbing over hay and the grand finale, CRAWLING THROUGH THE MUD!

Then the final stretch of the finish.

300 kids registered and sold out this event and I swear to you I have never been in a place with so many kids with ALL SMILES ON EVERY FACE. No crying, no whining, nothing but FUN for ages 14 and under. The Kiwanis made a pancake breakfast, TucKeR the Turtle was there, there was face painting and bouncy things and a parachute, and it was a blast.

Not to mention the cool Tucker the Turtle medal and the turtle necklace they got in their race packets, neither of which they have put down yet. The little turtle necklace has a turtle charm on it and you collect one at every Tri Kids Rock event that you do. If you collect 10 of them, well then you’ve become a warrior and you’re awesome.

My 5 year old’s other favorite thing though was a pen shaped like a bone because he’s totally into skeletons right now.
Tri Kids Rock’s next event is the Tri Kids Rock Hot Cocoa Run on December 10th in Clearwater. The distances are 1k, 2k, 3k and a 2k Family Fun run with hot cocoa and treats at the end! The first 300 registrants will receive a commemorative hot cocoa mug and I’m telling you, the last event SOLD OUT and so will this one! You can register at IMAthlete and by searching for the “Trikidsrock hot cocoa run.”
If you’re local, you MUST do an event that is sponsored by Tri Kids Rock. In fact, even if you’re NOT local and you’re interested in having your kids race in anything from ages 3 on up, this is your stop for information on HOW to get them into it without pushing them too hard.
One way to do that is by having them enter into awesome mud & obstacle races like this one! This was my 5 year old’s second running race this year, his first one (sort of) was the YMCA kids tri in September. But this was my little one’s very first race and it was a BLAST!!!!
