Does Working Out Make You a Better Writer?

This picture’s funny. What happens if you forget that last one? That person really needs this list.

I’m going to go out on a limb here but I think working out makes me a better writer.

OK now don’t go readin betwixt the lines or anything and saying well if this post is evidence that you worked out then, no, it doesn’t make you a better writer because this post sucks.

Because this post doesn’t count.  It’s a post about posting. (Plus that’s not really nice.)

Anyhoo. I realize not every post-workout post is gold. (Jerry).

However, at least there is post-workout posting. And that’s something.

Which is better than non-workout non-posting. Which is not something.

And that’s what seems to happen. When there is no working out, there is no posting. Or no words. And it’s a struggle to find them. Unless of course the reason for the non-posting is the working out like if I’m doing a race or something but oddly enough, I post on those days too so perhaps that doesn’t count at all so nevermind.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I can get my bearings after a workout. That my mind is somewhat flushed. I can find words again. I am inspired by titles of posts swirling in my  head during the working out.

And the fact that I even made it to the gym in the first place means that I have in some way made my to-do list manageable. At least for that day. And that’s been hard for me lately. My to-do list never seems to go away. I’m not in my rhythm yet since school started and I’ve got lots of other things going on that are very very good but very very busy.

So at home I’m sort of flailing around. I have forgotten things like sending the library books back to school with the kids, blankets to school for naps, little things. But little important things. Things that are important to them and things that are important to me.

But at least one day this week, I remembered the permission slip, the library book, the blanket, we walked to school on a special “Walk to School Day,” I got a lot of work done AND I went to the gym. All before noon.

And also, I posted.

So that’s something.

Which is better than nothing.

Right?
